Cam Newton left stadium in walking boot, injury doesn’t seem serious

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton exited in the first quarter of Thursday’s preseason game against the New England Patriots with an apparent foot injury.

It came after Newton was sacked for the second time in the game. It also came in his return to action after undergoing shoulder surgery.

Needless to say, there were some nervous people within the Panthers’ locker room after the game.

The good news? NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport is reporting that Newton’s injury doesn’t seem to be serious. The bad news? He was seen leaving Gillette Stadium in a walking boot following Carolina’s 10-3 loss to New England.

Rapoport also notes that Newton could undergo further tests on Friday.

There’s obviously going to be further updates on Newton’s status within the next several hours. At the very least, the hope is that his latest injury isn’t too serious.

Newton worked his tail off this past offseason to get back on to the field, only to see himself injured in his first game back. That’s just unfortunate.
