As if the day hasn’t been going bad enough for the Carolina Panthers, reigning NFL MVP Cam Newton had to leave in the fourth quarter after suffering a concussion.

It came during a two-point conversion attempt after Carolina had put up just its second touchdown of the game.

As you can see above, Newton was absolutely drilled by Atlanta Falcons linebacker Deion James at the goal line on the two-point attempt.

It’s one of those jarring hits that forces a quarterback to rethink why he decided to run in the first place.

As it relates to Newton, he was obviously woozy after the play.

Derek Anderson replaced Newton as the Panthers’ starter goes through the concussion protocol.

After the game, it was announced that Newton did, indeed, suffer a concussion and he was unavailable to speak with the media.

This is something to keep an eye on throughout the week. Already in a 1-3 hole to open the season, Carolina is reeling. Thankfully, their next game is next Monday night, which means Newton has an extra day to recover and potentially be cleared for action.
