Fousseyni Traore tallied 21 points and seven rebounds while Trevin Knell added 20 points to lead host BYU to an 87-75 victory over TCU in Provo, Utah, on Saturday night.
Dallin Hall chipped in 12 points, seven assists and six rebounds for the Cougars (21-8, 9-7 Big 12), who rallied from a 17-point halftime deficit. Richie Saunders added 11 points and seven boards.
BYU beat TCU for the 17th straight time after scoring 58 points and going 8-for-15 from 3-point range in the second half.
Emanuel Miller led the Horned Frogs with 15 points and nine rebounds. Jameer Nelson Jr. chipped in 14 points and five assists. Trevian Tennyson added 12 points. TCU (19-10, 8-8) lost despite scoring 15 points off 11 BYU turnovers and finishing with a 21-9 advantage in fastbreak points.
BYU fell behind 46-29 at halftime after going 1-for-13 from beyond the arc, but the Cougars erased the deficit behind a 15-0 run. Knell fueled the run with a pair of 3-pointers and Traore’s layup capped the spurt, cutting TCU’s lead to 50-49.
JaKobe Coles halted BYU’s initial rally with back-to-back baskets. The Cougars didn’t stay quiet for long.
Saunders highlighted a decisive 20-2 spurt with back-to-back baskets, including a go-ahead corner three. Jaxson Robinson punctuated the run with a jumper that put BYU up 75-64 with 4:34 left.
TCU started 7-for-8 from 3-point range to give its offense an early boost. Tennyson knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers as part of that perimeter flurry, fueling a 10-1 run that gave the Horned Frogs a 23-16 lead.
BYU held TCU scoreless for four minutes and cut the deficit to 23-22 on a layup from Robinson. The Horned Frogs used another big run to reassert control before halftime.
Micah Peavy’s breakaway dunk capped an 18-3 run that put TCU up 41-25 late in the first half.
