The Buffalo Bills need help if they are going to play their AFC wild-card game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday afternoon. And they’ll even pay you for your services.
With mountains of snow from a dangerous lake-effect storm filling Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, N.Y., the Buffalo Bills are hiring people — anyone over 18, really — to dig out the stadium overnight.
The Buffalo Bills are calling for a maximum of 200 shovelers, who would be paid $20 per hour and fed a complimentary breakfast, to work throughout the night and into early Monday morning at Highmark Stadium, where the game is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. ET.
The storm, which is expected to subside overnight, is projected to dump up to three feet of snow by the time it’s done. On Monday, the National Weather Service forecasts snow showers for the morning, with the temperature reaching a high of 19 degrees and wind chills close to zero.
Buffalo Bills’ stadium would have been unplayable Sunday
At the original game time, Sunday at 1 p.m. ET, winds were gusting at 30 mph and snow was falling at a rate of nearly two inches per hour, causing a white-out effect as volunteers at Highmark Stadium worked to clear the snow from all parts of the stadium.
Although there were reports that the game could be suspended one more time, New York Governor Kathy Hochul, who in concert with the NFL postponed the game until Monday, said she expected the game to be played at the scheduled time because workers would have time to clear the roads and the stadium.
A travel ban was lifted at Buffalo Niagara International Airport, where the Pittsburgh Steelers arrived Sunday afternoon.
