Buffalo Bills' new stadium to begin construction immediately on biggest project ever built in Western New York

Buffalo Bills fans have long been patiently waiting for a new stadium to be built. The existing arena, Highmark Stadium, has been in use since 1973, going back to when it was originally called Rich Stadium (1973-97), then Ralph Wilson Stadium (1998-2015), New Era Field (2016-19), and finally, Bills Stadium for a year in 2020.

Many still refer to Highmark as “The Ralph,” but pretty soon, Bills Mafia will have a new place to call home. On Thursday, the Bills officially announced construction for New Bills Stadium will begin immediately. It will officially be the biggest project ever built in Western New York.

New Bills Stadium will be built adjacent to Highmark on Abbott Road, just across the street from 1 Bills Drive so fans won’t have to go far to find the new football venue.

If you aren’t already familiar with some of the details of the build, the Bills will continue playing outside, delivering some of the best snow games football has to offer. New Bills Stadium will be a state-of-the-art open-air stadium built on a plot of land that includes 242 acres, covering roughly 1.35 million square feet.

Construction is scheduled to be completed in time for the start of the 2024 regular season. The Bills’ website includes a collection of renderings imitating how New Bills Stadium is expected to look, and we have to say, it looks majestic.

For a Bills organization that has a roster built to win now, one could argue the future has never looked brighter in Orchard Park.
