The Buffalo Bills made an important move on Tuesday that could open the door to an impact trade before the deadline on Oct. 31.

After winning three straight and looking like the team that was a serious title contender in the first half of the 2022 season, the Buffalo Bills have fallen into a slump. They have lost two of their last three, including a stunning 29-25 defeat to the lowly New England Patriots on Sunday.

Furthermore, they could have lost three straight if not for barely surviving an unexpectedly tough game against the New York Giants two weeks ago.

That is why there are some in the Bills Mafia wondering if the organization will try to make a big deal before the NFL trade deadline on Halloween. The team clearly has some needs. They could look for replacements for injured stars like Matt Milano and Tre’Davious White. Or Buffalo might also feel running back James Cook could use veteran help to carry the load for the rest of the season.

Buffalo Bills now have around $4 million to play with before NFL trade deadline

However, pulling off a big trade would be difficult since the organization only had under $1 million in cap space available. Well, that was until today.

On Tuesday, ESPN NFL insider Field Yates reported that “The Bills recently restructured the contract of LT Dion Dawkins, converting base salary into a signing bonus and creating about $3.9M in 2023 cap space.” This means the team should have somewhere right around $4 million worth of space for an incoming contract.

If the team now wanted to look into the asking price for New York Jets running back Dalvin Cook, or Minnesota Vikings star pass rusher Danielle Hunter, they should have enough money to take on the rest of their contracts without sending out more than draft picks in a deal.
