Tom Brady has worn No. 12 for his entire 20-year NFL career. Now that he’s a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he may have to pay a lot to receiver Chris Godwin to keep wearing it.

Speaking about the situation Friday, Godwin said he hasn’t talked to Brady about that yet but said he’s “definitely going to keep it” if Brady “doesn’t want it or isn’t making a big deal about it,” per Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times. He then said, “we’ll see how that goes.”

Translation: This jersey won’t come cheap, Mr. Brady.

Given the fact that Brady reportedly got $50 million guaranteed with incentives for $9 million more on his two-year deal with the Bucs (via ESPN’s Adam Schefter), he can certainly afford to make a generous contribution to Godwin’s bank account if he does want No. 12.

For what it’s worth, Godwin, along with fellow star receiver Mike Evans, likely had a lot to do with Brady’s decision to choose Tampa Bay. Certainly, he landed a huge upgrade in talent by making the switch.
