Buccaneers officially name Jameis Winston starter

Well, that didn’t take too long. In just one half of football following his return from suspension, Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston replaced Ryan Fitzpatrick under center.

It came during what was a brutal performance in a 48-10 loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday.

Wasting no time announcing his intentions at this position moving forward, Buccaneers head coach Dirk Koetter has officially named Winston the team’s starting quarterback for its next game in Week 6 against the Atlanta Falcons.

It’s not too often that we see a quarterback on pace to throw for north of 5,000 yards and 44 touchdowns benched. But that’s the situation Fitzpatrick currently finds himself in. He had led Tampa Bay to a 2-0 record to start the season before the team dropped the past two games.

Sunday’s humiliating team-wide effort had to play a role in Koetter’s decision. Though, Winston was anything but sharp in replacing Fitzmagic under center.
