Cleveland Browns receiver Jarvis Landry does not believe that the ongoing drama between Duke Johnson and team brass will have a negative effect on the team.
Johnson has asked to be traded. He’s repeatedly made it clear that he will not be happy unless he’s wearing another uniform, saying at one point that he feels the Browns don’t want him. Recently, he fired his old agent and hired Drew Rosenhaus, who has a history of getting deals done with the Browns.
Despite this, Jones doesn’t believe any of this will be a distraction:
“It will not be a distraction,” Landry told Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot. “Our focus is pretty clear. We want to win a championship and the guys that are here, that’s going to help us do that. We start on Thursday. Let’s get it done.”
It’s not quite as brusque as what Baker Mayfield had to say about Johnson back during minicamp. Still, it’s clear that Landry is excited to get to work with guys who want to be there: “Excited, ready to go,” he said. “Obviously I’m a football player. I’m excited to see the guys get back into the locker room, back into the routine.”
Cleveland enters the 2019 season with exceedingly high expectations after decades spent in the AFC’s cellar. Landry and his teammates have a lot of work to do if those expectations are going to be met.
