Browns QB coach: DeShone Kizer has ‘chance to be special’

DeShone Kizer throws during Cleveland Browns OTAs

In the never-ending attempt to perfect their current quarterback situation, the Cleveland Browns selected Norte Dame’s DeShone Kizer 52nd overall in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Only a couple of short months later and Kizer is drawing some pretty special praises from his quarterbacks coach.

The fact that quarterbacks coach David Lee mentioned Kizer among Super Bowl champs Ben Roethlisberger and Joe Flacco is pretty amazing. At 6-foot-4 and weighing 233 pounds, Kizer is a large-bodied figure similar to both Big Ben and Flacco. Both weigh in well over 200 pounds and stand 6-foot-5 and 6-foot-6, respectively.

Kizer put up 2,925 passing yards with 26 touchdowns and just nine interceptions in his final season at Notre Dame. .

He could be that life preserver that helps keep the Browns afloat this season. Not shockingly, the Browns are holding their annual quarterback competition consisting of Kizer, second-year player Cody Kessler and recent acquisition Brock Osweiler.

According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, Kizer reportedly worked with the first team in reps on Thursday. If he keeps receiving glowing reviews, he may just oust Kessler who is penciled in as the No. 1 quarterback at this time.
