Browns place Josh McCown on trade block

Josh McCown

According to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport, the Cleveland Browns put Josh McCown up for trade after signing Robert Griffin III.

A potential landing spot for McCown could be the New York Jets if the team cannot agree to terms with Ryan Fitzpatrick. According to a recent report, the Jets have expressed interest in trading for McCown.

If the team does lose Fitzpatrick, it will need to find a starter-caliber quarterback to replace him. In what is already a weak quarterback market, that’s not going to be an easy task. Though, McCown’s contract seems to be much more reasonable for the team than what Fitzpatrick is demanding.

In addition to this, McCown would make for a more attractive option in New Jersey than either Geno Smith or Bryce Petty.

It is also possible that other teams in quarterback limbo such as the Denver Broncos could come sniffing McCown’s way.

Suiting up for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Browns over the past two seasons, McCown has posted a 2-17 record as a starter during that span. His best performance under center came when he filled in for Jay Cutler in Chicago back in 2013.

In eight games, McCown completed nearly 67 percent of his passes for 1,829 yards with 13 touchdowns and just one interception.

If the Jets were to somehow acquire McCown, he would reunite with Brandon Marshall. As you likely gather from the quarterback’s stat line with Chicago, Marshall was a primary reason for his success.
