Browns officially name Baker Mayfield starting QB

In an absolutely shocking turn of events, the Cleveland Browns have named Baker Mayfield as their starting quarterback for Week 4 against the Oakland Raiders. Okay, it’s not shocking.

It was the worst kept secret in Cleveland since LeBron James’ departure from the Cavaliers this past summer.

In any event, the reigning Heisman winner will now start his first regular season game with Cleveland traveling to Northern California to take on a winless Raiders squad.

Browns head coach Hue Jackson made it official on Monday.

Taking over for an injured and ineffective Tyrod Taylor last Thursday against the New York Jets, Mayfield led his Browns to their first win since Christmas Eve of 2016. It was a stirring performance in front of the home crowd at FirstEnergy Stadium and led to this eventuality.

All said, the rookie No. 1 pick completed 17-of-23 passes for 210 yads in just over two quarters of action. His presence helped Cleveland overcome a 14-0 deficit to grab that rare win.
