Immediately ahead of their vote on a new collective bargaining agreement proposal, the NFL Players’ Association (NFLPA) have elected a new president.

That comes in the form of Cleveland Browns veteran offensive lineman J.C. Tretter.

The former Green Bay Packers mid-round pick was one of several candidates for the job. Said list included soon-to-be Carolina Panthers offensive tackle Russell Okung, who pulled himself out of the running recently.

This is no small thing. Tretter has not necessarily opined on the status of the collective bargaining agreement, but he has been a great resource for the union.

Things are getting interesting behind the scenes as the NFLPA prepares for an up-or-down vote. Whether this clarifies things remains to be seen.

A six-year pro, Tretter replaces Eric Winston in the role of president for a union that could very well be on the brink.
