Cleveland Browns general manager John Dorsey says he’s open for business as it concerns the No. 1 overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft.
Speaking to reporters Thursday at the combine, Dorsey was asked if he’d listen to trade offers for that coveted pick.
“Why wouldn’t I? Give me a call and see what’s up,” Dorsey said, per ESPN’s Pat McManamon.
“There’s a lot of things I can do with No. 1, and not just get a quarterback as well,” Dorsey said. “My door is wide open. If somebody wants to come up and talk to me about a trade, I’m willing to trade. But also I’m going to do what’s best for this organization, and I will do that.”
Of course, Browns fans probably are collectively groaning at this comment. After all, just in the past two years Cleveland has traded away chances to land Carson Wentz and Deshaun Watson, both of whom look every bit the part of a franchise passer.
Needless to say, until the Browns actually land a franchise passer of their own, their fans are going to have some serious anxiety.
That said, perhaps Dorsey and Co. is more interested in luring in a top free agent like Kirk Cousins. Hue Jackson said on Thursday that he absolutely does not want a rookie quarterback starting in Cleveland when the season opens up.
It’s also been reported that the Browns aren’t high on any of the rookies this year. So perhaps the team is more inclined to go the veteran route than bring in a rookie.
