Brooklyn Nets chasing Damian Lillard, but their top trade chip is ‘not for sale’

The Brooklyn Nets are not alone. Several NBA teams have sprung into action since Damian Lillard’s trade request from the Portland Trail Blazers went public. This includes top contenders like the Miami Heat but also several aspiring teams, such as the Nets.

Yet, while the Nets are said to be pursuing the seven-time All-NBA guard, Brooklyn does have a limit on who they’re willing to include in trade negotiations.

According to Michael Scotto of Hoops Hype, breakout star Mikal Bridges is not up for discussion in any potential Lillard trade. But that doesn’t mean a Lillard trade to the Nets is completely dead.

Brooklyn may still be able to present a compelling offer, boasting a collection of seven first-round draft picks and talents like Nic Claxton or even Spencer Dinwiddie’s $20.3 million contract set to expire next summer.

In the end, the Blazers are said to be searching for the best trade return possible and are not interested in meeting Lillard’s demands to be sent to a specific location. Without Bridges on the table, it’s hard to imagine the Nets having the best offer possible, even if the ability to add tons of draft capital is on the table.

After reaching the postseason in 2023, it’s clear the Nets are eager to continue adding talent. But not at the cost of sacrificing the face of the franchise to do so.
