Report: Brock Osweiler could have made more staying with Broncos

New details have emerged regarding what the Denver Broncos were willing to offer their former quarterback, Brock Osweiler, to stay with the team.

“I know Denver was willing to go $18.5 per (year) and at least put a $35 million guaranteed offer in front of him,” Benjamin Allbright of houston.cbslocal.com told Mike Meltser and Seth Payne of Mad Radio on SportsRadio 610 on Tuesday.

Osweiler eventually signed with the Houston Texans after they offered him a four-year contract worth approximately $18 million per year. Reportedly, after receiving lower offers from Denver, Osweiler simply stopped taking calls from the Broncos.

“The Broncos weren’t just folding up shop. They wanted Brock. They just couldn’t through on the phone to make that $18.5 million offer they were going to make.”

Regarding Osweiler’s stance, he was likely soured by what the Broncos originally offered him, which was reportedly around $12 million per year. Furthermore, the team benched him in favor of Peyton Manning in Week 17. Manning then received much of the glory for advancing the team to the Super Bowl, despite Osweiler starting seven games.

This didn’t exactly sit well with Osweiler, per Allbright.

“Brock Osweiler[…]was unhappy with the situation with the Broncos after he got yanked after CJ Anderson fumbled the football. He felt like it wasn’t his fault. Like he was progressing the football well.”

So in the end, Osweiler settled for slightly less money than he could have made with his former team.

Right now, Osweiler is focused on his new team and starting job as expected. That was made evident by his decision to not attend the Broncos’ White House visit for the team’s Super Bowl celebration in June.
