Case Keenum will not be the Denver Broncos’ starting quarterback next season. That role will be filled by the recently acquired Joe Flacco.
This seems to suggest that Keenum will either be traded or released less than a calendar year after signing a two-year, $36 million contract with Denver.
Speaking at the NFL Scouting Combine on Wednesday, Broncos general manager John Elway noted that he has talked to Keenum. Equally as important, it remains a strong possibility that the veteran will be calling another NFL city home next season.

Set to count $21 million against the cap next season, this stands to reason. Even if Keenum were open to restructuring his contract and becoming Flacco’s backup, the finances simply wouldn’t work.
Based on Keenum’s salary, it seems more reasonable that he’ll be released outright. The 31-year-old journeyman threw just 18 touchdowns compared to 15 interceptions last season.
It represented another miserable failure for Elway as the executive looks to fix Denver’s quarterback situation.
