Super Bowl LI odds: Brock Osweiler signing increases Texans’ predicted chances

Prior to signing quarterback Brock Osweiler, the Texans odds of winning Super Bowl LI were reportedly plus-5000, according to The Dallas Morning News.

This had the Texans sitting in the bottom half of all of the NFL teams based on the odds.

Now according to Bovada.com, the Texans’ odds to win Super Bowl LI have increased to plus-2000. The Texans now share the same odds as the Dallas Cowboys, Cincinnati Bengals and Minnesota Vikings to win Super Bowl 51. Go figure.

Only seven other NFL teams have lower odds than Houston, per Bovada.

It is quite amazing to see such a dramatic spike in the Texans’ odds after the team added a quarterback who has started in only seven NFL games. Osweiler went 5-2 in seven starts behind center with the Broncos, completing 61.8 percent of his passes for 1,967 yards, 10 touchdowns and six interceptions.

The Broncos attempted to retain the services of Osweiler by offering him a three-year, $45 million deal. Though, it wasn’t enough to compete with the Texans, who lured the quarterback away by offering Osweiler a hefty four-year, $72 million contract.

Will the addition of Osweiler make for instant success in Houston? That will certainly be one of the top storylines to follow once training camp and the preseason games get underway. Now, time to go place those early Super Bowl bets.
