Brock Osweiler benched for Tom Savage after throwing two INTs

Brock Osweiler

Brock Osweiler’s first season with the Houston Texans can only be described as terribly disappointing, and he was finally benched for poor performance Sunday.

As Houston hosted the Jacksonville Jaguars, Osweiler threw two early interceptions, leading to 10 points. Both were on poor throws, which has been a consistent theme for the overpaid quarterback who was brought over from Denver at the hefty price tag of $72 million over four years.

Earlier in the year, it was reported that the Texans believed Osweiler’s problem was a lack of confidence. But as the season continued to wear on, it became clear that he simply doesn’t have the consistent accuracy needed to get the ball where it needs to be on time, nor the rocket arm to make up for it — something we pointed out early on.

Including Sunday’s action, Osweiler has thrown 14 touchdowns and 16 interceptions on the season.

Tom Savage came into the game for Houston, and it will be interesting to see how the Texans play this out if he can move the offense consistently. He looked sharp early and led the Texans right down the field, thanks to plays like this.

Unfortunately, he failed to convert a fourth-and-goal on a fade route to DeAndre Hopkins, and Houston remained scoreless in the game.
