Not for the first time this season, Michigan State benched starting quarterback Brian Lewerke on Saturday against Ohio State, leading the way for Rocky Lombardi.
Lewerke was struggling through a miserable game before being benched. He had completed just 8-of-16 passes for 84 yards and the Spartans didn’t manage to score a single point.
Then Lombardi was inserted into the lineup, and Michigan State’s offense promptly marched down the field on a seven-play drive that ended with a field goal right before halftime.
It’s looking like Sparty might be compelled to roll with Lombardi the rest of the way in 2018.
