Minnesota Twins’ Brian Dozier: Home Runs for Cuties?

Brian Dozier

If you aren’t familiar with Minnesota Twins’ second baseman Brian Dozier, you should get on that right away. He’s got a flashy glove, hits for power and is a really good person with a great sense of humor. He also doesn’t shy away from off the wall questions during interviews. Watch the video below.

As you can see, Dozier doesn’t dodge the reason he had a smirk on his face after blasting a home run of Tampa Bay’s ace, David Price. Dozier is a regular on “The Half-Assed Morning Show” on KXXR (93x) in Minneapolis. As a born and raised Minnesotan, I am a listener of this program and it’s terrific radio. If you go back and watch the video, that smirk is the moment that Dozier realized what he had just done. And that he’d probably have to answer to more difficult questions from his wife. (OK, probably not)

Dozier is having a really good year all around. For a Twins team that had all sorts of questions about where their offense would come from, Dozier has been a welcomed lift at the top of their order. With Joe Mauer out with back spasms, the team needs some production in the power and RBI categories. Currently, Dozier tied for fifth in the American League with eight home runs. But it’s not just Dozier bat that’s making him valuable, it’s his glove too. See below.

The Twins are quietly having a better season that many thought they would (me included). They have been hovering around .500 all year, yet having not played that well at Target Field (8-9). If their starting pitchers can continue to surprise (and it’s possible more help is on the way as aarongleeman.com breaks down why we might we see an Alex Meyer debut in the near future), and guys like Dozier continue to provide some offense, perhaps the Twins can hang around and fight for playoff spot as the Summer goes on.
