Brian Daboll won’t say if Daniel Jones will return to New York Giants this season

Back in 2021, Daniel Jones missed six starts due to a cervical neck strain, ending the New York Giants’ starting quarterback’s season far too early. Jones once again suffered a cervical neck injury in Oct. 8’s 31-16 loss to Miami. The 26-year-old QB hasn’t played since.

Jones has already been ruled out for the Giants’ Week 8 battle against the New York Jets. There’s no sense on when the Giants’ franchise QB will return to the starting lineup, and head coach Brian Daboll’s outlook on the situation may be getting worse.

On Friday, Coach Daboll was asked about when, or even if Jones will play again this season, noting the similarity to his injury in 2021. Daboll didn’t exactly provide any positive details, but he didn’t sound too forthcoming either.

It’s easy to understand how Daboll didn’t want to set any expectations when dealing with his $160 million QB’s neck injury. There’s no way to know his status for next week today. But the good news is Jones is improving, and he hasn’t been placed on injured reserve. As Coach Daboll stated, we’ll see where the Giants QB’s health is at next week.

Tyrod Taylor will be under center against the New York Jets on Sunday, in what will be the 13-year-pro’s third start of the season.
