Georgia Southern opted against renewing Brian Burg’s contract and parted ways with the coach on Thursday after three seasons.

Burg led the Eagles to a 17-16 mark this season, including 9-9 in the Sun Belt. Georgia Southern lost to Louisiana in the Sun Belt tournament Saturday to end its season.

“I would like to thank Brian Burg for his contributions to our men’s basketball program over the past three seasons,” Georgia Southern athletic director Jared Benko said. “No one wanted to bring a Sun Belt title home to Georgia Southern more than him, and we greatly appreciate his commitment towards accomplishing that goal with our student-athletes, coaches and staff.”

Burg, 43, finishes with a 43-45 record in three seasons. Burg was an assistant under Chris Beard at Texas Tech before being named Georgia Southern’s coach in March 2020.
