NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre was always, and will always be, the prototypical gunslinger by which all others are measured. He was always more keen on forcing a ball into a tight spot for a big play than diagnosing a defense at the line of scrimmage and surgically operating.
Highlighting this fact, Favre related a story about being a young starter for the Green Bay Packers with his good buddy Ty Detmer as his backup.
He started talking about how coaches would discuss nickel and dime defenses, over and under coverage. Favre had no clue what any of it meant but was too afraid to ask questions. Finally, after more than a year, he worked up the courage to ask Detmer what a nickel defense was.

Favre is a throwback. In this day and age, it seems like it would be impossible for a young quarterback to come into the NFL without knowing all the answers to simple questions like the ones Favre was clueless about.
How times have changed.
