Just days after facing influencer-turned-boxing-star Jake Paul in a main event bout inside California’s Honda Center, former middleweight champ Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is being deported by ICE.
“The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detained prominent Mexican boxer and criminal illegal alien Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., and is processing him for expedited removal from the United States,” DHS revealed in a Thursday post on their website. “Chavez is a Mexican citizen who has an active arrest warrant in Mexico for his involvement in organized crime and trafficking firearms, ammunition, and explosives.”
The post claims that the veteran boxer entered the country legally with a B2 tourist visa in 2023. But that was only valid through February of last year. Last April, he applied for permanent residency after allegedly getting married to a US citizen. However, that citizen raised a big red flag with Immigration Services.
“Chavez’s application was based on his marriage to a U.S. citizen who is connected to the Sinaloa Cartel through a prior relationship with the now-deceased son of the infamous cartel leader Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman,” the report claimed.
“On December 17, 2024, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services made a referral to ICE that Chavez is an egregious public safety threat. However, an entry in a DHS law enforcement system under the [Joe] Biden administration indicated Chavez was not an immigration enforcement priority.”
DHS claims that after “multiple fraudulent statements on his application” for permanent residency, he was determined to be in the country illegally. Targeted for an ICE round-up and will be deported back to Mexico.
Chavez Jr. suffered a unanimous decision loss to popular influencer boxer Jake Paul on Saturday night. The 39-year-old former middleweight champion has a 54-7-1 record over a 22-year career in the sport.
