A veteran boxer and former champion believes it could take a year for Jake Paul to get back into the ring after Anthony Joshua broke his jaw in not one but two spots last week.
This past Friday, Paul took the boldest step yet in his divisive fighting career. After another domestic violence allegation led to his bout with Gervonta Davis being scrapped, he pivoted to a shocking matchup with former two-time unified heavyweight king Joshua.
Most assumed the Englishman would put a hurting on the Cleveland native. And he did, but it took him six rounds to do so. Paul showed heart in taking legitimate heavyweight shots before he was knocked out once and for all. But he is still a fighter who is a better fit for light heavyweight and cruiserweight, at best. There was no better proof of that fact than when he confirmed he had his jaw broken by Joshua.
Could Broken Jaw Force Jake Paul Out for at Least 9 Months?

However, Paul didn’t have a cut-and-dry broken jaw. Joshua’s punches actually fractured his jaw in two separate places. With such a significant injury, “El Gallo de Dorado” is sure to be sidelined for multiple months. But former junior welterweight titlist Chris Algieri believes Paul will be away from the ring for far longer than that.
In a new edition of his Inside Boxing Live podcast, Algieri revealed that he knows a few fighters who had a similar injury, and based on what they went through, he expects it will take nine to 12 months for the influencer turned fighter to return to action. Mentioning it will even be difficult for him to talk for a while as he recovers from the injury.
When he is ready to return to the ring, matchups with Francis Ngannou, Gevonta Davis, or Ryan Garcia are all possibilities for Paul’s next fight.
