While the Boston Red Sox have been linked to a pursuit of Japanese star Yoshinobu Yamamoto, it seems that the organization has made it known that they are also all in on 2023 Cy Young winner Blake Snell.

This is an important offseason for the Boston Red Sox as they try and get back to their winning ways in 2024. After reaching the American League Championship in 2021, the team has had back-to-back losing seasons and finished at the bottom of the AL East in those two years.

The organization has a few areas of the roster they need to upgrade in the months ahead, but none more so than the pitching staff. The staff was in the bottom 10 in ERA and opponent batting average this year, and the starting rotation was one of the worst in the league in quality starts. That is why the organization has been in speculation about Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

The 25-year-old Japanese ace is one of the most coveted arms on this year’s free agent market, and the Red Sox are a strong candidate since they have the funds and desire to sign him as well as the big market Yamamoto reportedly wants to compete in. However, he is also not the only elite pitcher the organization is pursuing as the league heads into the winter meetings.

On Monday Mass Live Red Sox reporter Sean McAdam revealed the team is also very interested in 2023 National League Cy Young Blake Snell and that “the Red Sox, a source confirmed, expressed an interest in him earlier this month at the GM Meetings in Arizona.”

With the winter meetings starting this weekend, conversations could certainly pick up quickly, however, McAdam did admit Snell is expected to have many suitors for his services in MLB free agency.

The San Diego Padres ace won his second Cy Young Award this season after posting some of the best numbers of his career in ERA (2.25), WHIP (1.189, wins (14), and his most strikeouts in a season (234).
