Boston Bruins break NHL record for most wins in a season

Entering play on Sunday, there had never been an NHL team to win 63 or more games in a single season. But the Boston Bruins set out to make history as they prepared to take on the Philadelphia Flyers on TNT.

Despite being on the road, the Bruins didn’t lack any energy, defeating the Flyers 5-3, with David Pastrnak getting the hat trick with three goals and an assist. Tyler Bertuzzi also scored three points, having a hand in three assists on the afternoon.

Ultimately, Boston’s effort led to their 63rd win of the season, a new NHL record. The Bruins are now 63-12 on the season.

While the feat itself is incredible, what’s amazing is the fact that Boston still has two more games to play, giving the Bruins a chance to put this record further out of reach for future hockey greats. Boston’s final two matchups come against Washington and Montreal, two teams who are below .500 on the season.

Yet, this is just the regular season. It doesn’t mean anything once the playoffs begin. We saw proof of that in 2019 when the Tampa Bay Lightning tied the NHL’s all-time wins record before losing in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoff.

Boston Bruins

  • Projected Cap Hit: $85,456,448
  • Projected Cap Space: $-1,956,448
  • Current Cap Space: $157,500
  • Roster: 23/23

The Bruins, who last won the Stanley Cup in 2011, hope for a better outcome as they seek to add to their six championship trophies in their showcase, but boasting the top seed heading into the playoffs gives them a strong start.
