Seattle Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner is entering the final year of his contract. But before the 2019 season begins, he hopes to have a new contract that will make him the NFL’s highest-paid linebacker.
Speaking at OTAs, Wagner cited the deal that C.J. Mosely signed with the New York Jets in the offseason, setting the existing record.
“I mean, the number is the number, the market is the market,” Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times said. “That’s the top (of the) linebacker market. … That is the standard. And so that is the plan to break that.”
Mosely’s deal was for $85 million over five years, with $51 million guaranteed.
The veteran is at OTAs but is not practicing due to his contract situation. Instead he’s serving as a mentor for the younger players.
Wagner, 28, has made each of the last five Pro Bowls. He’s earned First-team All-Pro honors four times (2014, 2016-2018) and Second-team All-Pro honors once (2015). In 2018, he was in on 138 tackles, added one sack, and another interception.
