Bob McNair hopes Texans play in Super Bowl 51

The Houston Texans dabbled in the playoffs for the first time since 2012 when they were shut out by the Kansas City Chiefs (30-0) in the 2016 Wild-Card round.

With Houston playing host to Super Bowl 51 next year, owner Bob McNair said he would like to see his Texans play in the big game which would take place on their home turf.

“It’s never happened that the host city, host team, played in the Super Bowl, so we’d like to break that record,” McNair said per Drew Dougherty of the team’s official website. That would be wonderful and anything is possible.”

McNair made his announcement on Thursday when the Super Bowl LI countdown clock was unveiled, according to Doughterty. The Texans owner also announced at the same event that the team would be targeting a quarterback in the 2016 NFL Draft. If the plan is to actually have a new rookie start for the team, McNair’s Super Bowl aspirations are a bit grand to say the least.

Though if Brian Hoyer remains under center, it could be even harder. He proved utterly useless when it came time to facing the postseason pressure. Either way, it is fabulous to hear that NcNair is inspired and believes in his team. Should the Texans make it to the playoffs again, they’ll have their usual and challenging set of other AFC suspect teams to bypass in order to become Super Bowl-bound.

For those counting the days, Super Bowl 51 takes place on February 5 at Houston’s NRG Stadium. And an early look at betting odds has the Texans currently at 40/1 to play in Super Bowl LI.
