One of the best running backs in college football is set to return for another season with the Michigan Wolverines. Blake Corum, who finished seventh in Heisman voting despite having his season cut short, has announced his decision to continue his career at Michigan for his senior year.
Considering Corum has nothing left to prove at the college level after rushing for 1,463 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2022, the news comes as a bit of a surprise. Yet perhaps he knew his season-ending injury would only cause further questions during the pre-draft evaluation process and wanted to answer any doubts on the field instead.

Yet, according to Corum, he still has “unfinished business” at Michigan and will continue to terrorize defenders in college before taking his game to the next level.

Blake Corum’s recovery timeline unknown
Corum, whose recovery timeline remains unclear, will return to the Michigans for his fourth season. First, he’ll need to get back to 100% after offseason surgery to repair his meniscus, which he said was torn. This would have caused Corum to miss out on the entire draft evaluation process, which would have no doubt hurt his prospects with the NFL.
While Corum’s return is great for Michigan, this comes as bad news for backup Donovan Edwards, who showed he’s ready for a starting role, going off for 991 yards on just 140 carries, leading to a robust 7.1 yards per carry.
But for Corum, getting back on the field at Michigan provides an opportunity to prove to NFL evaluators that his knee is just fine. This should help boost his draft stock instead of being largely forgotten about during the three-day 2023 NFL Draft.
Who knows? With another strong season, we could be talking about Corum as one of, if not the top running back in the 2024 NFL Draft class. I’m sure if we asked Corum, those are his exact plans.
