Bengals ‘hope’ A.J. Green doesn’t miss more than four weeks with ankle injury

The Cincinnati Bengals lost star receiver A.J. Green to an ankle injury this weekend, but the team has “hope” that the injury won’t cost him any regular-season games.

Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com noted that “there was no definitive word” on the severity of Green’s ankle injury after undergoing an MRI.

“The hope is there is no more damage to a sprained left ankle with the thinking he’d miss four weeks after he came down on the outside of his foot when contesting a pass,” Hobson wrote.

If Green doesn’t miss more than four weeks, then he could potentially play the team’s final preseason game, and at the least he would likely be available for Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks.

If the injury is a bit more severe than the initial diagnosis showed, then Cincinnati’s offense would certainly suffer. Green is one of the NFL’s best receivers when healthy, and the Bengals were already behind the eight ball to open the season before his injury took place.
