Baylor star Davion Mitchell declares for 2021 NBA Draft

Baylor point guard Davion Mitchell is declaring for the 2021 NBA Draft and plans to hire an agent, The Athletic reported Wednesday.

The 6-foot-2 junior led the Bears to a national championship on Monday, tallying 15 points, six rebounds and five assists in an 86-70 victory against previously unbeaten Gonzaga in the NCAA Tournament final.

Mitchell started all 30 games for Baylor (28-2) this season and averaged 14.0 points, 5.5 assists, 2.7 rebounds and 1.9 steals. He shot 51.1 percent from the field and 44.7 percent (63 of 141) from 3-point distance.

A potential lottery pick in the July 29 draft, Mitchell was the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year in 2020-21 and an All-Big 12 first-team selection. He was named the conference’s Newcomer of the Year in 2019-20 after averaging 9.9 points and 3.8 assists in 30 games (all starts).

Mitchell began his collegiate career at Auburn, playing in 34 games off the bench in 2017-18 and contributing 3.7 points and 1.9 assists in 17.1 minutes per game. He sat out the 2018-19 season after transferring.
