Bartolo Colon will turn 45 during the 2018 MLB season. While most players are long retired by that point, Colon is planning on returning for at least one more season.
Colon pitched in 2017 as a member of both the Atlanta Braves and Minnesota Twins.
With the Braves, he struggled to a 2-8 record in 13 starts, posting an 8.14 ERA and a 1.778 WHIP. The struggles continued in 15 starts with the Twins, but he was better. In Minnesota, Colon was 5-6 with a 5.18 ERA and a 1.438 WHIP.
Colon is a four-time All-Star and won the 2005 American League Cy Young Award. Colon would be the first player to play past his 45th birthday since Jamie Moyer and Omar Vizquel in 2012. He does have a long way to go to match Moyer, who was 49 when he retired, and even longer to match Satchel Paige, who pitched at 59 in 1965 and was the oldest player in MLB history.
