Cleveland Browns running back Duke Johnson wants a trade. Quarterback Baker Mayfield doesn’t seem to have a lot of sympathy for Johnson.
Mayfield called Johnson’s issue “self-inflicted.” When asked if he (Mayfield) supported Johnson as a teammate, Mayfield said simply “he’s gotta do his job.”
Mayfield added (per Mary Kay Cabot, Cleveland.com) that “you’re either on this train or you’re not.”
There’s not a lot of ambiguity in those words.
It’s interesting to hear someone be as direct as Mayfield was here. Trade requests aren’t uncommon in sports. Still, it’s rare for another member of the team to be so critical, especially before a trade has happened.
Mayfield, though, is clearly not in the mood to deal with a lot of internal drama.
