Average ticket price for SEC Championship Game is staggering

The SEC Championship Game between No. 1 Alabama and No. 4 Georgia on Saturday is the biggest game of the year so far, and ticket prices reflect that.

According to TicketIQ (h/t saturdaydownsouth.com), tickets for the SEC Championship Game are significantly more costly than any other title game this weekend. That’s hardly surprising. However, just how much more these tickets are costing fans is a bit of a shock.

The average price for a ticket to the big game in Atlanta is $776, which is more than double the next-most-expensive ticket (Big 12 Championship Game).

Crazy enough, these ticket prices are not quite as staggeringly expensive as last year’s SEC Championship Game, which averaged $925.

Still, this is some serious sticker shock.

The prices ensure that only a certain sector of society will be afforded the luxury of attending the big game in person. Consider this: Two people would be spending well over $2,000 to attend this game from out of town — considering hotel arrangements, car rentals and/or parking lot prices, concessions and any other items purchased at the game.

It’s just a staggering amount of money being poured into one game that features amateur student-athletes who are not allowed to see a single cent for their efforts.
