You could say there was renewed interest in this year’s Super Bowl. That’s primarily true because two new contenders in that of the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers were doing battle.

Also, the New England Patriots were not playing in the game for the umpteenth time.

We’re now getting some final numbers as it relates to the average ticket cost for the game, courtesy of resale site Ticketmaster. It’s absolutely insane.

In fact, the average cost for a ticket ended up being $8,507.

“The record-setting ticketing figures for Super Bowl LIV continued February 3 as National Football League ticketing partner Ticketmaster reported its average price for tickets sold to the game reached $8,507 each, the largest figure for any single live event in the history of the Live Nation-owned company,” Eric Fisher of Sports Business noted.

Ticket prices were increasing as the game approached Sunday evening in Miami. The game itself was also the 10th-most watched Super Bowl in history as Kansas City mounted a late comeback to earn its first title in over a half century.

It really was a perfect storm. The face of the NFL, Patrick Mahomes, taking on an upstart 49ers team. Two different stories of success. A championship game in the ever-popular South Beach.

Even then, the idea that the average cost for two people to get into the game was north of $17,000 is just absurd.
