Atlanta United’s Miles Robinson to undergo Achilles surgery

Atlanta United confirmed that captain Miles Robinson suffered a ruptured left Achilles tendon during Saturday’s 4-1 win vs. Chicago Fire FC.

He was scheduled to undergo surgery later Monday.

The team didn’t announce a timetable for his recovery, but a torn Achilles likely would mean the end of Robinson’s MLS season and jeopardize his availability for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, which starts on Nov. 21. He is a defender on the U.S. men’s national team.

Robinson went down with a non-contact injury in the 14th minute of Saturday’s game. He left the field on a stretcher.

Robinson, 25, has started 85 of his 96 appearances on Atlanta’s back line since 2018.

Atlanta (4-4-2, 14 points) will meet Nashville SC on Wednesday in the U.S. Open Cup Round of 32. Its next MLS game is Saturday in Atlanta against the New England Revolution.
