The entire concept that COVID-19 does not impact the young and healthy is a dangerous lie. It does. We have seen this throughout the pandemic around the United States and the rest of the world.

One Atlanta Braves star is a living example of this.

Freddie Freeman details fight with COVID-19 in horrific fashion

This should act as a wake-up call for all of those young people who seemingly go about their days acting like this virus won’t affect them. It will. You will become sick. You could die.

A 104.5 fever is not normal in any form. A 30-year-old man in the prime of his career and in tip-top shape dealing with the ramifications of the virus tells us a story.

It’s also important to translate this to the sports world.

2020 MLB season to begin July 23

The backdrop to all of this is team sports returning in less than a week. MLB will begin its truncated 60-game season on Thursday with a doubleheader. Teams will be playing in their home stadiums, some of which are located in the epicenters of the COVID-19 pandemic around the world.

The entire idea that professional athletes can simply beat the virus and return to the field without any lasting impact is foolhardy.

The good news? Out of north of 10,000 tests conducted around the Major League Baseball world over the past week, only six came back positive. That seems to be a step in the right direction.
