Two days after informing his social-media followers that he will miss the next six weeks for fractures to two of his fingers, power-hitting outfielder Marcell Ozuna of the Atlanta Braves was placed on the team’s injured list Friday.

Ozuna, 30, fractured his left ring and middle fingers when sliding into third base during the Braves’ win at the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday.

“If there is a good thing, there’s not a surgical process,” Braves manager Brian Snitker said Wednesday, a day after the injury occurred. “It’s a significant time to be without a big player on your team.”

Prior to his injury, Ozuna had not missed a game this season. In his second season with the Braves and ninth in the majors, Ozuna owns a .213 batting average with seven home runs, 26 RBIs and 21 runs.

A two-time All-Star, Ozuna finished sixth in National League MVP voting in 2020 after leading the National League in both home runs (18) and RBIs (56) while hitting a career-best .338 in playing all 60 games during the abbreviated campaign.

In a corresponding move, the Braves recalled infielder/outfielder Johan Camargo from Triple-A Gwinnett. The 27-year-old Panama native is hitless in 13 at-bats with the team this season. He has played in parts of five seasons with Atlanta, which includes his career-best 2018 season when he hit 19 homers with 76 RBIs in his second season.
