Atlanta Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday.
Albies, an All-Star selection in 2018 and a Silver Slugger in 2019, lands on the IL after initially suffering a wrist injury this past week. After attempting to play through the pain, Atlanta exercised precaution.
Ozzie Albies placed on the 10-day injured list
It’s proven to be a rough few days in Atlanta. The team with World Series aspirations lost ace Mike Soroka to a torn Achilles on Monday night and now loses its star second baseman.
In addition to Albies’ departure from the roster, the Braves also placed designated hitter Matt Adams on the 10-day injured list. The organization hasn’t provided a clear timetable for either player to return, but missed time is crucial in a 60-game season.
Albies got off to a slow start this season with a brutal .159/.196/.273 slash line in 44 at-bats. However, he excelled in 2019 with a .295/.352/.500 line and hit 24 home runs in consecutive seasons.
While the Braves will lose Albies and Adams, the club is welcoming back Nick Markakis. The veteran outfielder chose to sit out this season in July but had a change of heart and will return to his team.
