As the Houston Astros fight to keep their lead atop the A.L. West, they now welcome back a player who will help in a substantial way.
On Friday, Houston activated outfielder George Springer off the 10-day disabled list. He landed on the disabled list at the start of August due to a thumb injury.

Upon his activation, Springer will return right near the top of Houston’s lineup. This season, the 28-year-old has slashed .250/.335/.436 with 19 home runs and a .772 OPS.
Before he hit the disabled list, Springer started to turn things around. In 46 at-bats after the All-Star Break, he posted a .961 OPS with four home runs, four doubles and 12 RBI.
Now with Springer and Carlos Correa back, Houston just needs All-Star second baseman Jose Altuve to return from the disabled list.
