Arizona Cardinals Sign Veteran Running Back Michael Bush

The Arizona Cardinals are making a late-season effort at resurrecting their struggling ground game by signing 30-year-old running back Michael Bush to the team.

Bush has not played throughout the 2014 season. His last stint of NFL action came as a member of the Chicago Bears last year. Prior to his two-season stint with the Bears where Bush really never excelled in his short-yardage duties, he spent 2011 in Oakland where he racked up 977 rushing yards for the season.

How exactly Bush will be utilized in the Cardinals’ offense will be revealed soon enough this weekend. But what we do know is the ability to sustain long running drives is where the Cardinals’ offense is lacking. Arizona has gained the second-fewest ground yards in the NFL thus far this season.

Standing at 6’2″ and weighing 243 pounds, Bush is a full-bodied back. Perhaps his presence in the backfield on third downs and short-yardage situations will produce the results the Cardinals are seeking, especially after suffering a major loss to the Seattle Seahawks last week.

Week 13 will have the Cardinals facing a generous Atlanta Falcons that has allowed nearly 126 rushing yards per game. Even with Andre Ellington receiving the bulk of the carries, Bush has the ideal opportunity to show his new team what he can bring to the table for the remainder of the season.
