Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis returned to practice Monday after missing the last 16 games with a foot injury, although the team’s injury news remains grim.

Despite the progress from a mid-foot sprain on Feb. 16, Davis still is listed as doubtful for Tuesday’s game against the Dallas Mavericks. Also listed as doubtful is fellow star LeBron James, who sprained his left ankle Sunday in a defeat to the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Lakers are just 31-43 this season and are in 10th place in the Western Conference. While they hold the final play-in spot in the conference, they are just one game ahead of the 11th-place San Antonio Spurs.

The Lakers are just 4-12 since Davis’ most recent injury. He has missed 21 other games this season, the bulk of which were because of a knee injury.

James also has missed a significant amount of time. He has missed 19 games for a variety of ailments, including a one-game suspension.

Davis has averaged 23.1 points with 9.7 rebounds in 37 games this season, while James has averaged 30.1 points, 8.2 rebounds and 6.3 assists in 55 games.
