Andrew Luck: Surgery was my decision, shoulder injury originated in 2015

Andrew Luck spoke with media on Monday for the first time since undergoing offseason shoulder surgery and made one thing abundantly clear from the outset of his presser — he was not pressured into having the operation.

Looking decidedly thinner than we’re grown accustomed to seeing the Indianapolis Colts quarterback, Luck said the decision was solely his own.

Luck also said there is currently no timetable for his recovery and that he has “full trust in the guys helping me out.”

Then the quarterback dropped a bit of a shocking piece of information, though it shouldn’t be surprising in hindsight.

Luck has had a rough go of it the past couple of seasons, missing 10 games. Unbelievably, the game he cites here was Week 2 of the 2015 season, meaning he gutted out the injury far longer than he should have to begin with.

Thankfully he did finally have the procedure to repair the damage. The original timetable for recovery was deemed six months. If he does return fully healthy for the start of training camp, then it’s likely we will see the same promising young quarterback in 2017 that was emerging as a league force during the 2014 campaign when he threw for 4,761 yards and 40 touchdowns and led the Colts to the AFC Championship Game.
