An interesting Tom Brady, Jared Goff tidbit ahead of the Super Bowl

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

There’s going to be story after story connecting Tom Brady to Jared Goff ahead of Super Bowl LIII this coming February in Atlanta.

In leading his New England Patriots to an AFC Championship Game victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, Brady will be making his ninth appearance in the big game. His counterpart in that game for the Los Angeles Rams was a mere seven-years old when Brady made his first appearance in the Super Bowl.

That just goes to show us how long-standing Brady’s success has been with the Patriots. But this piece of information dives deeper into it.

Goff’s father, Jerry, is a former MLB catcher with the Montreal Expos, Pittsburgh Pirates and Houston Astros.

In a real interesting turn of events, the older Goff was still a backup catcher in MLB when Brady was selected to play the same position in the 18th round of the 1995 MLB Draft by the above-mentioned Expos.

Obviously, Brady made the right career choice.

But that’s not the story here. Instead, it’s all about the longevity that Brady has displayed on the football field. His success — whether on the diamond or the gridiron — now spans two generations of Goffs.

Amazing.
