Amid Tony Romo rumors, Broncos still envision in-house quarterback competition

Tony Romo hasn't been discussed by Vance Joseph, John Elway and Co.?

New Denver Broncos head coach Vance Joseph is reportedly looking forward to opening the season with his current stock of quarterbacks competing for the job.

This statement seemingly shoots down the possibility that veteran quarterback Tony Romo is on the Broncos’ radar. Various reports have indicated that Denver is the current Dallas Cowboys’ quarterback’s preferred landing spot (more on that here).

It now appears that the feeling is not mutual.

Right now, the Broncos have two young quarterbacks who could contribute to the team moving forward. Trevor Siemian wasn’t horrible by any stretch of the imagination last season. But he failed to lead the Broncos to a playoff spot one year after they earned the Lombardi Trophy with equally pedestrian quarterback play. Meanwhile, 2016 first-round pick Paxton Lynch struggled a great deal in limited action.

For now, it appears Joseph is willing to let it ride with his young quarterbacks and let the chips fall where they may. Thankfully, Denver has a fantastic defense that is capable of picking up the slack when the offense is not quite holding up its end.
