Former Kansas City Chiefs star safety Eric Berry hasn’t played football since 2018, but that has apparently been his plan all along and he’s looking to come back strong in 2020.

Speaking on NFL Network, Mike Garafolo shared that Berry intentionally spent the 2019 season out of football so he could get his body right for a return to action.

A five-time Pro Bowler and three-time First-Team All-Pro, Berry was cut by the Chiefs last March, prior to free agency. He was dealing with an extremely painful heel injury (more on that here) and was clearly not able to play at the same high level that made him such a league powerhouse.

No doubt, Berry will get his chance to come back. He’s an elite player when healthy, and his incredible comeback after going through Hodgkin’s lymphoma left no doubt about his commitment to the game.
