Aliyah Boston, Caitlin Clark lead preseason All-American team

Reigning national player of the year Aliyah Boston of South Carolina and Caitlin Clark of Iowa were unanimous selections for The Associated Press women’s All-American team released on Tuesday.

Also named to the squad were Stanford’s Haley Jones, Iowa State’s Ashley Joens, Virginia Tech’s Elizabeth Kitley and DePaul’s Aneesah Morrow.

Boston and Clark were named on all 30 ballots from a national media panel.

Boston averaged 16.8 points and 12.5 rebounds while leading South Carolina (35-2) to last season’s national title. She set a program record with 30 double-doubles, including 27 in a row.

Clark led the nation in scoring (27.0) and assists (8.0) last season and also averaged 8.0 rebounds per game. She was a finalist for both the prestigious Naismith and Wooden awards won by Boston.

Jones, who averaged 13.2 points and 7.9 rebounds, led Stanford to the Final Four last season. She was named on 28 ballots. Joens was named on 24 ballots after averaging 20.3 points and 9.5 rebounds last season.

South Carolina is the preseason No. 1 team while Stanford (No. 2) and Iowa (No. 4) also are in the top five.
