According to Craig Mish of Sirius XM Radio, St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Alex Reyes has a potentially season-ending injury following an MRI that was performed on his pitching arm Tuesday morning.
The plan was for the 22-year-old to be in the starting rotation for St. Louis this season, but he could already be lost before ever throwing a single pitch during spring training.
In 2016, Reyes sported a 4.96 ERA with 93 strikeouts and 32 walks for Triple-A Memphis before being promoted to the big leagues. He finished his MLB stint with a 1.57 ERA and 52 strikeouts in 46 innings.
Reyes recently announced he would be pitching for the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic.
